Audiology updates

No changes. Both kids hearing levels have stayed the same.
The audiologist would not write "progressive" or "fluctuating" on Miles audiogram. So, I give up!

I don't know if I'm just having a bad day or what but I just feel like crying. I'm just so done with our school system. If they are not required by law to help your child, then they don't give a damn. It's not just like this with my child with a mild hearing loss. Roland is a fourth grade student who writes at a first grade level. He needs occupational therapy. He needs accommodations to achieve the level of which he is working at. But, since he has such high test scores, more than likely, this Spring they will take away his IEP, his OT, and accommodations. Because, by law they can. Not because it's the the best for Roland. It's because they will not do anything that the law does not require them to do. Excellence my ass.
I don't really want to deal with them anymore, so I think I will just keep Miles home with me next year.

  1. We went through this frustration with our first IEP process. Julia tested just above the cut off for the placement we wanted. We are lucky now that our county has hired the very best teacher of the deaf (a John Tracy alum). She's saved the program for our county in my opinion.

I hope you're able to get the services you need for your son and are able to keep doing good work at home. It would be nice if the schools would bend the rules to provide more services, but I think those days are over. Everything is about doing business cheaper.

  2. Oh, I am so sorry the school district is such a pain! I know there are a lot of homeschoolers and homeschooling organizations that do a great job at educating their kiddos.

The IEP fight can be so exhausting- I hope things work themselves out!
